“Real issue in video is gay sex”

Gibbs, McVie, and AJ have all written about it, and I am writing about it too, so you dear MGG readers can share your intelligent opinions here.

“Real issue in video is gay sex.” - Cebu Priest

default.jpg The article (excerpt only, copied from McVie): For an official of the Roman Catholic Church, the commission of a homosexual act is the real issue behind the rectal surgery in Cebu City that exploded into a scandal on YouTube.

Msgr. Achilles Dakay, spokesperson of the Archdiocese of Cebu, Wednesday said the doctors and nurses who had made fun of an anesthetized male patient in the operation room of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) and uploaded a video of the surgery on YouTube should not be blamed solely for the scandal.

“We are asking everyone not to forget or to bypass the main issue: the wrong act of a guy with another man,” Dakay said in an interview over the Church-run Radio Veritas. “People are not talking about what happened before the operation—the homosexual act that was done very badly.”

  1. Pope meets with victims of sex abuse by clergy, apologizes

    published Friday, April 18, 2008

For 25 remarkable minutes, the shepherd of the world’s one billion Catholics met with a handful of victims in the worst scandal to ever tarnish the U.S. church.

One man, abused as an altar boy, said he placed his hand over Pope Benedict XVI’s heart as he pleaded with him to fix the problem of sexual abuse of minors.

The pontiff apologized to his guests for not being perfectly fluent in English, and ”for everything,” according to another victim.

Plans for the secret meeting were kept quiet. But two Boston-area victims of abuse shared details of the meeting in interviews late Thursday with The Associated Press.

Though Benedict had been expected to address clergy sexual abuse in his visit to the U.S., the volume and frankness of his remarks over the first half of his six-day pilgrimage have been startling.

Benedict expressed shame and a determination to do better in a talk with U.S. bishops on the plane ride over, and again Thursday at a giant open-air Mass.

The meeting that took place Thursday afternoon between a Mass at Nationals Park and an address to Catholic educators had long been in the works, but wasn’t on the pope’s official schedule.

Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston had high hopes Benedict would accept his invitation to visit his archdiocese to mark its 200th anniversary. When that didn’t work out, O’Malley kept in touch with Archbishop Pietro Sambi, who as papal nuncio represents the Vatican in the U.S., about bringing Benedict and victims together during the trip, said the Rev. John Connolly, a special assistant to O’Malley.

  2. a specific example of how a man in cloak uses opinionated self-righteousness in preaching what he believes is basically “right and/or wrong” in the Roman Catholic Church. my God has unconditional love for me and all his children, this i frimly believe and truly have the deepest faith in. must i say more?

  3. Pope acknowledges sex abuse scandal “badly handled

By Philip Pullella and Tom Heneghan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Pope Benedict on Wednesday acknowledged the Church had handled the pedophile priests scandal “very badly” and told U.S. bishops to bind up wounds and seek reconciliation with those who were “so seriously wronged.”

For the second consecutive day, the pope said the scandal had caused “deep shame” and enormous pain as the result of priests betraying their vocation by sexually abusing minors with such “gravely immoral behavior.”

After visiting the White House on Wednesday morning and praying with President George W. Bush, he dedicated a section of a speech to the bishops to the scandal that rocked the Church starting in 2002 and has forced U.S. dioceses to pay over $2 billion in damages.

“It is your God-given responsibility as pastors to bind up the wounds caused by every breach of trust, to foster healing, to promote reconciliation and to reach out with loving concern to those so seriously wronged,” he said.

He said he agreed with an assessment by the head of the U.S. bishops conference that the crisis had been “sometimes very badly handled” and that only recently was “the scale and the gravity of the problem” more clearly understood.

The Church was criticized for transferring known abusers rather than defrocking them or turning them over to police.

“While it must be remembered that the overwhelming majority of clergy and religious in America do outstanding work … it is vitally important that the vulnerable always be shielded by those who would cause harm,” Benedict told the bishops at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington

  4. of course anyone can circumvent any situation, and pick and choose the issue of their liking to advance their ‘moral crusades’, and indeed what an opportunity it is to lambast the immorality that is gay sex than present a picture of gay guy with a canister up his ass.

i wonder if the same priest would even tackle the subject of sex if it were a hetero female patient in the center of this.

this only shows the bias and discrimination that gay people face everyday. and it is even more unfortunate to hear from a priest, who i assumed, was ordered to console and give comfort to those who are oppressed and humiliated, regardless of their deed, color or sexual orientation.

  5. And gay sex is a sin, premarital sex will make you go to hell, and wives are properties of their husbands. “That’s what the bible says.” The real issue is the homophobia still rampant in society, the same one actively promoted by the evil and immoral (yes, you heard it right) Catholic Church. Any institution which continuously promotes hate towards any group of people for no other good reason than they simply just don’t like what you do in bed is evil and immoral IMO. Who still takes the Catholic Church seriously nowadays? Oh, yes, old people and spoonfed Third World folks. The Church is as relevant as Betamax. Isn’t atheism on the rise and church attendance steadily declining in industrialized countries? Spain and Italy are no longer the bastions of Catholicism that they used to be so the Church is targeting countries with lots of poor people. Harsh as it may sound, the truth is it’s easier to brainwash the ignorant and the hungry. Any person with a hint of intelligence and/or brave enough to step out of the confines of spoonfed propaganda can easily realize that (1) the bible’s credibility isn’t rock-solid and, in fact, questioned by some (including so-called bible experts) and (2) being gay doesn’t make you a horrible, immoral person just because somebody says so. I mean, c’mon now, masama akong tao ‘coz I’m a man who likes cock? Anong pakialam mo sa buhay ko if I like anal sex? Much less say calling me immoral just because you don’t approve of it? Sino ka?!? If there’s a God, I sure hope he’s intelligent enough to understand the idiocy of such thinking.

  6. The real issue is “client’s privacy”!

What’s next? If they took another client sick from breast cancer from failed surgical enhancement; laughed about it and had it on you-tube; SHOULD IT BE OK TOO? WOULD THE STUPID PRIEST SAY ‘THE REAL ISSUE IS NOT BEING HAPPY WITH WHAT GOD GAVE YOU”

    Stupid Priest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Msgr. Achilles Dakay is right, the homosexual deserved that treatment because he is immoral. Msgr. Achilles Dakay should be put up on a pedestal. This is why I lost faith in catholic churches and priests a long time ago. They are far from being godly.

LOL, bat nman kase pinasok nya yung ganun kalaking BODY SPRAY sa pwet nya!?! Buking 2loy!

  9. Basically he wants the people to hate the homosexual who was obviously a VICTIM. What a narrow minded priest. I never want to set foot in a catholic church again!!!!!!!!

The issue is not about the homosexual act, its about decency and ethics! As a professional, dpat HINDI KINALAT ang video if its for documentation purposes.

Tao lang naman si Danilo (the gay guy) and he also has the urges.

  12. For the church, it is considered a sin for a man to be sleeping with another man. But the REAL issue here is the violation of the doctors on the code of ethics. Never in my years as a student nurse, had I seen such inhumane act from doctors on their patients. And worse, to shoot it on video was even more unforgivable.

Poor guy. He was a laughing stock at the hospital. I wish people would somehow put themselves in the guy’s position, and only then could they be in the position to say how they feel about the issue.

The crux of the matter that everyone should focus their attention on about this particular issue is the doctors’ and nurses’complete disregard of the patient’s right to his privacy. The patient sought these professionals’ help regarding his health problem in good faith, and they in turn revealed “everything” for the whole world to see. Where is the patient/ doctor and patient/nurse confidentiality? What gives them the right to video and upload the surgery for the whole world to see? Isn’t this a sort of exploitation of a patient’s condition? And they in turn uploaded the surgery vidoe even without the patient’s consent?

And I am sorry but Msgr. Dakay should stop being so hypocritical. His statement about “the wrong act of a guy with another man” is so typical of the Church leaders’ pompous display of self righteousness. IF I may ask, what about the pedophile priests who continue to prey on the young, innocent boys to satisfy their sick behavior? May we hear a statement from you about this topic, Msgr Dakay?

What the doctors and nurses did is a violation of their code of ethics and pratice. Above all, they should do no harm to a patient, be it to their physical or mental health. And these doctors and nurses should be banned from practicing their profession. If they work in the United States, they would have been fired by now!!!

The church is still in denial up to this very day that male to male relationships do exist and will exist.

  15. danilo… dont settle for 6 million peso claim only.. what they did is not only against you.. but against all of us who couldnt fit on the society norm. go for 20million.. we will support you..
dont mind the opinion of the church leaders because homosexuality will always be brought against all of us.. just keep in mind.. half of these church leaders are bursting inside to do such act.. half or more of them are gay too..
para kang si ZTE witness jun lozada.. you against everyone..

“DISCRIMINATED”. Di na siguro yun magbabago. Isa lang ang masasabi ko.. BAKLA NGA KAME AT INAAMIN NAMIN NA BAKLA KAME PERO DI NAMIN KASALANAN MAGING GANITO… KUNG ANG SIMBAHAN GANUN KABABA ANG TINGIN SA AMIN. PWES WALA AKONG PAKIALAM SA INYO.. PAREHO LANG TAYO NG DIYOS AT ANG ALAM KO YUNG DIYOS NA KILALA NATIN AY DI TUMITINGIN SA KASARIAN KUNDI PARA MAKAPUNTA SA LANGIT KUNDI SA LINIS NG PUSO MO…..because i believe that the children is our future (nosebleed)..winner!!

  17. I will echo what I commented on McVie’s blog. A forced object up the ass is not a homosexual act but rather SEXUAL ASSAULT (which I believe has been already brought up by Akbayan Representative Riza Hontiveros-Baraquel). Period. Yes, have a celibate person preach about sex. It makes so much sense.

an excerpt: The resolution described the incident as “discriminatory, degrading, abusive and humiliating” as the medical attendants involved “displayed a blatant disregard for human dignity and human rights.”

It also noted that the patient was “not only a victim of discrimination and
stigma but of sexual abuse and hate crime as well.” Hate crimes are defined as
those committed against persons on the basis of race or gender.

The resolution added that hate crimes thrived due to the prevalence of bias
against members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities.

  18. was the video about two men having sex?

the video was about an operation where the patient was being laughed at, ridiculed, mocked and all. that alone is a big injustice. not to mention that those “professional” swore an oath of privacy, respect and utmost care to their patients.

the patient just happened to be a gay man. Had he been a hetero, would they subject him/her to the same humiliation? Certainly not. It just goes to show how hypocritical still our society is in not totally embracing and accpeting the gay community.

  19. I asked Ser Egay Samar to forward my text message to Senator Danton Remoto. This is the future senator’s reply: “Pls tell him am thnking abt it but need consensus from ang ladlad party list.”

(Update, new text from Sen Danton, finorward ni Ser Egay: “Pls tel ur friend nagsalita na ko sa dzmm. And that am sending a press release after lunch.”)

I asked the future senator about his reaction on the Cebu Surgery Scandal. Kaya tayo “binibiro” sa US e, like ung sa Desperate Housewives.

The doctors said the cheering was to cheer the success of the operation, not to ridicule the patient) [in an interview on dzBB radio.]”

Laughing sa sinapit ng pasyente? Tsk tsk. Malinaw na malinaw sa video ninyo that you were ridiculing the patient’s situation. Yes, you were cheering.

I commend the Department of Health’s Sec Duque. He said in an interview that “the medical team should be sanctioned.” MAKINIG DAPAT ANG ADMIN NG VICENTE SOTTO MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER!

And to the Church? Please, stop telling us about the tales of Sodom and Gomorrah. May napanood akong interview sa Balitanghali QTV-11, I think a priest from Cebu ang ini-interview. Me kasalanan daw ung pasyente kasi nakikipag-sex daw siya sa lalaki. Siya daw talaga ang may sala.

The issue here, Father, is about a patient’s right to his or her privacy and confidentiality.

I am unknown. But I’m adding my voice to this issue: PARUSAHAN ANG MGA NAGKASALA! Revoke their licenses. Dismiss them from their services.

    Dr. Philip Leocarias, head surgeon;
    Dr. Angelo Alinawagan, assisting surgeon;
    Dr. Max Joseph Montecillo, surgeon at an adjacent operating table;
Nursing attendant Rosemarie Villareal; and Circulating nurse Carmenia Sapio.

    Karapat-dapat silang ikahiya!

  20. yes, it could be that the main issue here is gay sex. given: gay sex is forbidden; religion speaks of it.

pero utang na loob! tao rin tayo! don’t we desreve to be mahalay too!?

now, i believe, the video is NOT ABOUT GAY SEX ANYMORE. the issue there is work ettiquette, moral respect, etc. what was given there was a pure display of disrespect, not only to the victim, but also to the millions of people who belong t the “3rd sex”.

i really don’t get the point why people still tend to be so narrow minded. it is so hurting how they condemn us, as much as we don’t condemn them. afterall, its as if they have the cleanest asses here on earth, while have the dirtiest ones.

come on! i strongly reckon the Church for reacting in such way. it’s as if they strongly urge the masses to condemn the unhumane acts of those “medical professionals” and blame it all to the victim.

whatever it is, there is no way for those “demonic” (as i think they are) doctors and nurses to step on that victim. they certainly don’t know the words “professionalism”. come on! bring them all back to prep!

  21. Inserting a can of deodorant inside one’s ass and getting it stuck there isn’t a homosexual act. How about the woman who died of Toxic Shock Syndrome when she shoved a Nokia 8250 up hers? So that’s a bad heterosexual act? You don’t have to be gay for these things to happen to you. Straight guys insert their penises every where. One got stuck in a pool vacuum.

A homosexual act for me is loving and having sex with someone from the same sex. No need to discriminate.

  22. Lets just say that this thing did not happen to a gay guy and that this canister was found in a woman’s vagina after the heterosexual sex, and the doctors and nurses laughed at this woman after the operation? Would it be a different thing? Would the issue be on the act of sex? I dont think so. I used to be faithful but now I dont think so.

  23. I just really dont know why there are more incidence of rape in countries that are so conservative and if sex is part of then the movie would be anticipated and talked about. Are we opressed or something?
I know the comment is quite out of topic.

Mali ang statement ni Msgr Dakay

The REAL ISSUE here is Ethics!

Ano man ang sakit nya, mapa lagnat or aids or may nakabara sa pwitan nya, kaya sya pumunta sa doctor kc alam nya na the doctors can help them (and not lambast them and humiliate them)

So anong issue pinopoint out ni Msgr Dakay??? Walang issue kung ano ang personal na gawain ng victim, nde yun issue, because as a free citizen of this country, the victim is free to do what he wants. Walang pakialam ang church or ang government. As long as it abides by the law of the country.

EPAL!

TELL ME MSGR, HOW WOULD YOU FEEL???

  26. i’m a nursing student, and confidentiality is a major principle in this profession. us as nurses should not even laugh during operations, especially something like this that is sensitive, and worse shot on video, and worst spread on the web. ano bang pakialam ng ibang tao sa pinag gagagawa ng bawat isa. may nabasa akong comment sa bandang taas na “my God has unconditional love for me and his children” amen to that. that’s why at times i don’t believe in what our religions teach us anymore, it turned out to be just an organization now, when it should have been a way of life, living the way God wants us to live. i don’t believe that gay people are going straight to hell, most of the time, we’re the more compassionate beings who set foot on this planet. I BELIEVE GOD CREATED US IN HIS LIKENESS, SO PROBABLY GOD MAY EVEN BE GAY.

  30. I can’t believe that that priest said that.
The issue here is that the poor guy was denied of his right of privacy. It is the responsibility of the doctors and nurses as professionals to respect their privacy, like it is to a priest to whom the people are confessing their sins.

  31. The priest has a point. Homosexual acts are intrinsically evil and contrary to natural law. A homosexual person should not be offended by his statement because he made it clear that there is a distinction between a homosexuality as a condition which is not sinful in itself and homosexual act which is the object of his critique. It is high time we should admit this.

  32. my goodness, what on earth would you expect from a priest? to say that homosexuality is NOT a sin?

  33. wow that pries must be so damn holy.

  34. i think the real issue here is the way doctors treat the situation. i’m a catholic but guys don’t be a hipocrate, gays are not the only who does stupid things in making love, straight people do it also. it’s just so happened that the one involve in this issue is gay.

  35. that priest just want attention. nagpapaka-kontrobersyal. duh! i have no respect for him lalo na sa sinabi nya. hypocrite!

  36. the real issue here are the PRC. arent they gonna do anything with the doctors and nurses involved? the name has already been open to the public. and its so ashamed to PRC if they wont do anything with this…

  37. Msgr Dakay is NOT the voice of each and every Catholic. What he said should just be treated as an opinion by him and of no one else, especially not the Catholic community.

  38. what the priest said is very insensitive and irresponsible. he talks as if the church is not crowded with homosexuals who abuse children.

  39. ang homosexuality ay noon pang unang panahon. ang real issue is ethics of being a professional. the priest wants to bend the truth. would you believe we have a gay priest in our place? nakausap ko ang lalaking pinatus nya. he is a bishop here. kakahiya di ba?

  40. This scandal will really do good to the reputation of the Philippine medical profession as well as the lack of sympathy for victims of acts of sexual nature. I would even expect the priest to say, for example, that it would have been a woman’s fault to be raped because she was wearing a mini skirt or something of the sort. Has there been any response from pro-gay groups about his priest? I think the Catholic Church needs more bad publicity to wise up.

On the other hand, please understand that cannisters and similar materials are not safe as sex toys. There are dildos and vibrators everywhere. You could try fisting if you want something bigger. Of course, I can’t help but ask what was the patient thinking in getting that thing up his butt.

But the real issue is the lack of ethical firmness of these doctors. I can’t help thinking what our doctors are talking amongst themselves about their patients. Some patients would rather die of their ailment than die of embarassment. Say, what has been the response of the medical community? Haven’t heard of some condemnation on the media. Their medical license should be removed outright. At this point in time, I’ll just say I’ve lost trust in doctors. As for priests, I lost it years ago. That’s why I turned atheist. (Sorry I rambled.)

and this is why i am agnostic of Christianity and to some extent, anti religion.

unintelligent as this maybe, i really feel people who are homophobic - and any other bigot for that matter be they racist, misogynist, ageist - are stupid. how could they disregard the intrinsic worth and extrinsic actions - that are universally recognized as good - of human beings like them and give rise to antipathy just on the basis of some classification on anthropomorphic differences.

i felt Danton Remoto of Ladlad should have said a stronger statement when asked in Bandila about his comments about the comment of this priest. not necessarily venomous but acerbic in wit, like bringing up the clergy homosexual abuse scandal in the states aforementioned in one of the comments here.

  45. Sorry but that is the highest kaipokritohan ng isang baklang pari. Maski ba hindi sya paracticing gay.
The main issue is noy about gay sex but the ethics of the medical so call professional.
Padre ano ba naman. Maliwanag naman ang usapan ang ang nakikita is about the surgical procedure that was made like a comedy act.
Let us stop all these Padre. Condemn those in the operating room for making fun of a patient . kay bakla o tombay o ano pa man. We are all against the inhuman act of exposing and breaking of patient doctor confidentiality of tsuch procedure.
Padre what was scandalous was not about the act of one gay. There were women patient in the past who had candles or eggplant or dildos removed in their genitals. But doctors in the past are very careful in exposing or breaking the trust of patient.

AN OPEN LETTER TO MONSIGNOR DAKAY:

Dear Monsignor Achilles Dakay (spokesman for the Archdiocese of Cebu),

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s law. I have learned a great deal from you and will strive to share that knowledge with as many people as I can.

When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. And you have made it flawlessly clear to us that the 39-year-old florist involved in the scandal at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City recently has no one to blame but himself.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God’s Laws and how to follow them:

    1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine, however, claims that this does not apply to us Filipinos, but only to Arabs, Hong Kong Chinese and Britons. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own English slaves, provided that I can afford them?

    2. My cousin would like to sell his daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

    3. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. May I hack them with my machete the next time they complain?

    4. One of my neighbors insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states that he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

    5. A friend of mine feels that, even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this? Are there “degrees” of abomination?

    6. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses, though I am saving up for Lasik surgery. Does my vision really have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?

    7. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die? And afterwards, will it be okay to burn the nearest Bruno’s to the ground?

    8. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them (Lev. 24:10-16)? Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws (Lev. 20:14)?

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help.

Thank you again for reminding us that, no matter what advances we have achieved in society, technology, education and language in the past 10,000 years, God’s word is eternal and unchanging.

ANG PROBLEMA YUNG MGA NAGTANGGAL NG PINASOK! hirap ba ipasok sa kokote nyo yun msgr.! nakakalungkot to hear a man who dedicated his life in doing the teachings of God.

  48. that is why a lot of catholics are not in touch with the church because their teachings are out of touch with reality..how can you blame gay sex in this matter? did they see the video? gay sex has always been an issue with the church probably beacuse they are not getting any..it is just unfair to be blaming this issue in someone’s sexual preference..the real issue here is the patient’s privacy. it was obviously violated. how come the church is saying something about this issue? this does not concern the church at all & this is another attempt to further condemn homosexuals in the country. i hope they see the real issue here & be fair about judging & giving statements..to the doctors & nurses that were included in the operation, they are a disgrace to the medical & nursing professions. I am a nurse myself & I know how i goes inside the operating room, i have never seen this happen before probably because it does not really happen. only in this hospital & this is just plain BAD!! I wish for their licences be revoked immediately & I hope that every health professionals will learn from this.

  49. Hey, Achilles Dakay, don’t be judgmental. The issue of gay sex here is not important. What these doctors and nurses did was wrong.

  50. AMEN.
KARAMIHAN SA PARI, BAKLA. BAKA NGA KAHIT KANDILA GINAGAMIT NILA.

  51. This is a reminder to Achilles Dakay. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Masama yung ginagawa mo.

  52. ANG LABO MO DAKAY. ANG ISSUE DITO EH YUNG KABASTUSANG PINAG-GAGAWA NG MGA DOCTORS AND NURSES INVOLVED DUN SA SCANDAL. HINDI YUN KUNG ANO MAN ANG IPINASOK NYA SA PUWET NYA (HINDI PA NGA NATING ALAM KUNG SINO ANG NAGPASOK, LASING NGA SYA EH). IKAW KAYA ANG MALASING AT TAPOS LANGONG-LANGO KA ? BAKA KAHIT ANO IPASOK DYAN SA WET-PU MO KAHIT SIGURO KANDILANG 12 INCHES ANG HABA HINDI MO MARARAMDAMAN. HUWAG KANG MAG-JUDGE NANG IBANG TAO BAKA SA HULI IKAW ANG HATULAN. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

  53. Ang issue dito ay yung confidentiality ng patient as well as respect for other people’s feelings. BAYOT.

  54. taray ni desperate houseboy!!! what a nice open letter. Ang kapal ng mukha nya , he doesn’t deserve any respect.

  55. So if the guy happened to be straight, engaged in kinky sex with his wife, got a can up his ass, and went to surgery AND had the doctors behaved in the same idiotic unprofessional manner, would they be less guilty? Absolutely not. The lifestyle of the patient is besides the point here.
Just goes to show stupidity wears different clothes, whether a doctor’s scrub or a priest’s robe.

  56. Gelo, you wrote: “Homosexual acts are intrinsically evil and contrary to natural law.” I feel so sorry for your narrow-mindedness. What do you mean “natural law”. If you meant that old argument that animals don’t engage in homosexual sex, you’re way too ignorant of facts. There are more than 1000 documented species of animals that engage in homosexual activity. Also, so what if humans are the only ones who are gay. Just because something happens in other species, it does not dictate how we should behave. For example, it’s an undeniable fact that some animals eat their young. It’s natural, so should we as humans allow ourselves to become cannibals and even worse, eat our own children? Common, gelo, open your mind!

  57. this is the reason why I’m so f*cked up.

  59. i have great respect for Msgr. Dakay but his comment was way out of line. i never heard him say it, only what i read. the video posted on youtube was an act of disrespect to the patient and obviously the right to confidentiality was violated. this is about the person having the surgery and not what the person did, so he shouldnt be making such a statement. Msgr. Dakay is not the Catholic Church so, don’t hate the Catholic Church, hate the priest and pray for him. ;)

  60. what else should i have to say, we should accept that msgr. Dakay just said true enough on the religious outlook, it is being believed that the best way to analyze the outcome is the cause.yes it is, there wouldn’t be that if such have not been rooted from gay sex.Only that the other way around was of course your flight on the violation to code of ethics by the hospital staff to take video and published the operation, which of course should be treated with utmost confidentiality.

  61. it is really hard to accept that a priest promotes hate crimes against the third sex.
it is unforgivable that a priest ostracized his fellow by his sexuality…..but they can tolerate sexual abuses and pedophilia by their fellow priest…is being gay or human for that matter more of a sin than what other priest do. they keep on commenting on many moral issues outside the church but
when it comes to the issues regarding
the scandals that surrounds them they
are like a “tinuktukang kuhol”- they cant find they tongue when they are needed to explain.
    that’s all…

  62. As a graduate of a medical course and being a homosexual also, I think the real issue there is the inappropriate behaviour of the medical team and even exploiting such decorum in public. While I was in school, we were taught not to discriminate with whatever kind of patient we are tasked to attend to moreso if their cases are quite delicate and sensitive, the confidentiality of the case should be observed all the more. What I’m trying to say is regardless of whatever happened to the victim or whatever “sin” he committed, he should still be respected as a human being thus there is a need for the medical professionals to uphold utmost diligence and respect to their patient. Come to think of it, this would not have been so much of a controversy if not for the behavior of the medical professionals during the operation.

It amuses me when the gay population react with such vigor to snippets like this. Interestingly enough, I think that this hoopla is more the gay community’s fault than those of the priests who routinely criticize the right of gays to exist as human beings. I say that because we keep choosing to belong to a club where we are not welcome!!!! Oddly enough, the priest is right about the Catholic Church’s stance! I think that in the whole, no matter how you look at it, the Bible is and will always be intrinsically against homosexuality. Anything to the contrary is just wishful thinking that this so called Supreme Being of the biblical tradition is for a compassionate worldview. He simply isnt!! Just look at the horrible things he was a part of in the Old Testament. The things that even the Catholic church dont want you to read about or at least de-emphasizes. Forget about cans inside the anal cavity. If you want a bad ass, headline grabbing stunts, just pick up the Bible and see what Rambo Yahweh did! Plenty of it in there. Of course, this whole business with the Christian church’s moral authority on what lifestyles humanity should engage in or what ‘God’ really thinks of Gays would all simply disappear in a puff of smoke…that is, if you were just an ATHEIST!. I dont believe in God. Period. No issue. Nada. Nothing to debate. Nothing to care about what I shove up my ass. And I certainly will just laugh off the Roman Catholic Church who proudly proclaims that it speaks for or in behalf of a God that I dont believe in! Thankfully, there are other religions that we can base our moral and ethical practices on like Buddhism and Taoism or philosophies like Humanism. Religions that are more tolerant of us not because of how we use our genitalia but because we are, without a bleeding doubt about it, 100% belonging to the homo sapien species. I hope scandals like this teach us gays a lesson. In my opinion, we should free ourselves from the prison that we gladly allow others to keep us in.

  64. Aren’t there also so many people in the closet who are hiding under the white robe? Tsk tsk tsk. The skeletons of the RCC closet are much worse than that cannister. Anyway, people are not stupid to think that is the real issue. It is part of the issue, undeniably. But not the primary issue.

  65. what do we expect…another gay slashing…when gay people are involved there is usually a bad connotation…and thats how it is…sometimes we as gay people are the fruits of our own persona..our image…we fight for acceptance, for freedom….yet here in our own clan there is discrimination, there is hate…we have to start with ourselves first…accept our shortcomings…accept the thought that within this society of gay people there are also differences that we need to acknowledge…until we face this, until we truly understand and accept this…that is when people out of our circle will eventually accept us…I know my God…and I know that he accepts me for who I am…they can preach whatever they want..the real end point would be me and him only…i will be the only one to answer whatever wrong i have done…if they cant accept me for who I am…then better yet they leave me alone…

  66. Bakit bobo yung pari?

hmm i didn’t notice gelo’s comments until someone commented upon it. i really really find this dichotomy stupid. it’s a cop out for the catholic church when they say they condemn the act, not the actor. or when they say homosexuality as a condition is not a sin, but homosexual practice is. that is stupid. if you are against the act, you are against the actor. that’s a logical step and anything to the contrary is an easy way out of a dilemma over discriminating people.

it’s obvious. if the church really only hated the act, which is homosexual practice, why are homosexuals marginalized at every turn? but more importantly, homosexual act may be a sin according to the church but it is not bad, wrong or evil. prove to me in a universally accepted definition of good how homosexuality violates being a good person.

to wal the atheist, all i can say is, you and your generation of atheism is too strong and dogmatic like the catholic church the gay community is fighting. i think everyone should be more open than that. it’s not necessary to resort to atheism to uphold gay rights in their place among the catholic community. they are not mutually exclusive. they can coexist.

  69. ignore the bishop my gay friends. I stopped going to church even before this scandal broke out. The Catholic church is the last bastion of medieval ideas in this part of the world and the funny thing is: Filipinos still listen to these priests and bishops.

  70. “We are asking everyone not to forget or to bypass the main issue: the wrong act of a guy with another man”

It just amazes me how a lot of people who claim to be messengers and servants of God can be self-righteous and judgemental.

Sex whether heterosexual or homosexual outside marriage is forbidden according to the laws of the catholic church. So if this incident happened to heterosexual people what would the issue be? Why should it be different for gay people? Use your logic objectively.

  71. U know what mga Ate both sides ay may kasalanan. So both sides ay may kasalanan.. That’s my opinion lang po..

  72. To lonelygayboy:

I agree with Wal the Atheist. It’s quite clear that the Church and homosexuals cannot coexist. It’s baffling to insist on being part of a group which has repeatedly condemned us. I don’t see this stance changing in a hundred years. Have you seen the Pope? He’s ancient so why be surprised that his beliefs aren’t either? Even if some Catholics are more open-minded and, well, more up-to-date with the 21st century, just imagine the hullabaloo which will ensue if one day the Church decides to accept homosexuality. That’s what’s happening with the Anglican Church right now. A division seems inevitable because of the gay issue. In a nutshell, the Anglican Churches in South Africa, Brazil, the U.S., Mexico, and some in Canada supported having gay clergy and same-sex unions while those in Africa and some parts of Asia and Latin America were against it. Re: the bible: whether the anti-homosexual verse(s) in question really was or not, it’s open enough to interpretation to go both ways so homophobes can always use it against us. Never mind that the bible’s validity is not rock-solid and that not a single person in this world can prove that the bible’s ultimate source really is “God”. Or that there really is even a “God”, a mythical figure, really, who no one has concrete proof of seeing much like the dragon, the unicorn, and the phoenix.

well my two cents worth. Migs, I remember that once there was a guy and a girl in a mat, they were brought to the ER because the girl was inexperienced with sex with her boyfriend, clamped down and trapped her boyfriend’s penis in her vagina.
Does that mean she was evil as well for being caught with a man’s penis not her husband’s?
    Hahahahaha.
Thank God, he said, the one without sin can throw the first stone. And as usual grace happened.

Let’s see… Sa simbahan ang alam ko sabi nila eh its the act that should be condemned not the sinner.

  77. The real issue here my friends eh yung privacy ng tao, bakla man sya o hindi. Ang problema dito sa MSGR DAKAY na ito eh nakikisawsaw sa issue. ang mga bakla, tomboy at bisexuals ay TAO at ANAK NG DIYOS. i do not belive that only “homosexuals cannot enter heaven” as the bible says. i believe that this is eithr a mistranslation from the original hebrew (or was it aramiac? i dont rememebr) text or simply a conspiracy because the bible we now know indicates “homosexuals” yet no reference on “female homosexuals/lesbvians”. the transl;ation was absolutely unfair, unclear and up front self-righteous. again, i am NOT mocking the word of God. i am standing up against the mistranslation, misinterpretation and misconception about our kind. we are NOT minions of satan who are out to “eat human male flesh”. being gay is NOT about “in between the legs/crotch”. NO! it’s all about the heart and mind. kung ang dios marunong magpatawad at mang-unawa, tao pa kaya? God will undestand us. He did not set us up or what. He made us this way for a reason. what it is some may never know. but 1 thing’s sure: gay men are real people. gay men are NOT demons. gay men are CHILDREN OF GOD and can indeed enter heaven because of faith they have in God. remember the Word also says “for it is by grace through faith one is saved” so this totally negates “homos cant enter hgeaven” since g
