I’m an impulsive buyer, I admit it. Take this for example: I was meaning to buy one of those UMPCs (Ultra-Mobile PCs, those super cheap laptops), justifying to myself that it’s sub-20k (read: dirt cheap for a laptop), and very handy, very mobile, so I can blog anywhere I want. I shopped around, canvassed, and went home with a MacBook. Hahaha!
Then this other example: I was waiting for a friend at Festival SuperMall one day when I chanced upon this shiny new black cellphone: My Phone T22 Duo. The attraction was about it being Dual SIM — both active at the same time! I thought, it’s a great buy (less than 10k), and I can have 2 SIM cards active at the same time without lugging around 2 separate cellphones. In short, I bought one and I’m using it right this moment.
How do I find it? Is it a worthy buy? Do I recommend you gay gadgeteers to follow my example? (Haha!) Read on.
The Good
First, the phone is built surprisingly solid. It being “brand-less” (My Phone — wtf?) I was expecting a wishy-washy build. But no! It is shiny, shimmering, and solid out of the box (and a bit heavy in my opinion). The buttons aren’t flimsy, even the stainless lining on the sides are pretty well laid in that it doesn’t show icky gaps with the rest of the black matte body. Same goes with the back panel that goes off when you insert the SIM or remove the battery.
Second, it comes with 2 batteries! (I was actually suprised!) It’s my first cellphone that came with an extra battery, free-of-charge.
Third, it’s touch screen. And the stylus has a pretty neat compartment at the bottom-right corner at the back of the phone. Neat.
Fourth, the memory is expandable via a T-Flash memory card. Only with this phone did I discover that T-Flash is the same as MicroSD. Since I had a MicroSD from an old Moto phone, I was able to resurrect it with this phone.
The Not-So-Good
I actually just have one not-so-good thing to say about this cellphone. Its user interface (UI).
It’s quite difficult for me to navigate the menu. While the 2 SIMs have separate SMS inbox, it’s pretty confusing when replying. There were several times I accidentally replied to an SMS received by SIM2 using my SIM1 number. Not good at all.
And because cellphone use is so part of our lives, UI is one the most important things to consider in buying a phone.
My verdict? Look elsewhere.

Yup, very sound advice. I once bought this china phone with “dual sim” feature too. unfortunately, you’d have to switch it yourself!! How stupid of me!! I learned my lesson. It may look good, sound good, feels good but some details are just too important to outweigh all these. chill migs.

I bought the slider version of the MyPhone (I lost it though). And despite the cheap price, it didn’t look cheap at all. However, the predictive text for SMS was crappy, and I happen to be the type of person who writes messages with whole words, sentences, punctuation marks, and sometimes, even correct uppercase and lowercase letters.
I wonder though, if an unknown manufacturer can make dual SIMs active all the time, how come the bigger players can’t seem to grasp the concept.

hi there! I’m using the samsung SGH-D880 and I’m satisfied with the features. Dual Sim and standby features, and its user friendly, its like ur using a Nokia or Erricson phone too. I recommend this phone.

i got the samsung SGH-D880 so cool you have two sims active at the same time and its easier to switch sim as your primary…so easy to use and friendly too!

dude. buy the my.phone s22.. its a dual-sim slider phone… i though it has no bluetooth connectivity, iappreciate it. cos im a text-and-call text addict person. one also is it has an expandable memory up to 2G. great buy for a student lyk me..
i just wish that the manufacturer will create a dual-sim flip phone, that comes in black, neon/s: blue, green and red colors.. that’s equipped with a 2 or more Mpixels… with radio that is.. if the manufacturer will release it, il buy it the soonest possible! (me a my.phone fanatic)
