Quicktrip by Cris Pablo

When it comes to intelligent movie reviews with a gay slant, I leave it to The Bakla Review (TBR). He gives the movie an A-minus rating, which for me says I got to watch the movie. (And I thought I won’t ever watch a Cris Pablo movie again after surviving that harrowing “SEB: Cybergame of Love” movie he premiered at Cinemalaya.) Here’s what TBR has to say about Cris Pablo’s Quicktrip (formerly entitled “Quickie”):

The scenes are breezy, observant, and direct, some of the best in Pablo’s ouvre, or in any of the gay movies this year, with brisk editing and the wistfulness of Isha’s minimalist music. There’s not much actual sex or nudity, but the director’s original cut (one you can’t see in commercial theaters) includes an onscreen cumsh*t by Andro Morgan. Seemingly simple, with a soulful core, Quicktrip has magic.

  1. Haha, hope to see this flick!

  2. gusto kung manood..pero ala akong kasama!

  3. I’ve seen the movie and I’ve read TBR’s review the same day. I have to say I’ve always respected his reviews for it’s witty socio-political perspective and his apparent knowledge in film.

However, while his review of the movie was quite eloquent, I am more disposed to disagree with his A- rating.

i felt that the movie was trying to be witty. and it tries to criticize he gay relationships and how it is affected by money, power, and beauty (as a commodity)… but if it was trying to d so, i feel that it lacks a solid statement.

As a narrative, the movie just fails to deliver the point… what’s conflict? what’s the statement?

I’m not saying that it’s not worth watching. At the very least it’s a worthwhile point of discussion. and it’s very possible as well that I was just overcome with my predisposition on gay-themed indies.

As i said in my own review, watch it with caution. try not to expect too much

  4. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIGS!
    *saw the countdown!

  5. i guess its fabulous movie heheh..cute ng mga cast ha..infairness…

  6. A-.

    oh brother.

  7. Grabe, ang panget nito!  AKala ko naman maganda sya… Grabe.. Walang kakwenta kwenta.  The actors didnt give justice to the role!  Tsaka ang babaw ng istorya. Parang tanga lang!  Even the sex scenes, walang kabuhay buhay!

Isa pa rin ang fave ko, Lihim ni Antonio.  For an international indie film, LOVE OF SIAM.

Infairness ke Cris Pablo, wala pa kong nagugustuhang film nya maliban sa Duda.  Lahat parang wala lang.

    Migs, thank u so much!

  8. The film trailer looks very promising.
For those who lives abroad and wish to see the film, where can we buy the copy of the film?  Is it out in the market now? Please let us know.
    Mabuhay ka Cris! Another masterpiece.
And to those who can’t help but criticise, go to one corner, pause for a while and then ask yourself…….. Can you do better?
We should be proud of individuals like Cris, for making and reliving the world of queers…like us!
