Early this month I attended the Mr. International Philippines Finals Night in Makati City, upon the gracious invitation of Mike Lee, head organizer of the pageant. That night I was with my Canon SLR camera and a big stout zoom lens, just clicking away on what I thought was beautiful. Frankly not everyone on stage was click-worthy, but I found one guy particularly handsome. His name is Ian Leonel Porlayagan.
Ian was last year’s winner, unfortunately the organizers then (not Mike Lee) were not able to send him to Mexico where the international pageant was held. This year, with new organizers, he tried out again, hoping to be the country’s representative to Taiwan where the international pageant will be in November 2008. Sadly, he did not even make it to the top 3 slots. That’s heart wrenching. Typical Gulong ng Palad story.
When I was reviewing the photos I took, and I took a lot with Ian in it, I noticed a certain sadness in his eyes even while the contest was going on. Made me think, did Ian know deep inside that while he was the title-holder last year, this year it wouldn’t be him?

Underneath the looks is nothing but a cobweb space. Hehehe

the reason he didn’t won is because he doesn’t look like a straight guy! he looks like a gay guy! the winner (what’s his name again?) looks undoubtingly straight and brusque since he was once a soldier. pls feature that guy here.

Sadness? Baka pag-emote nya lang sa stage. But then again, parang pagod at parang walang gana ang dating sa stage. Only for this set of pics. Most his other pics are good.

@Migs
mas maganda pa rin yung dating format ng ‘comments posted’ na nakikita yung personal links, handle name and date posted..

i think he just realized that these mr. this or that contests are not getting him anywhere in life. i have yet to see a mr. this or that winner parly their titles to some success in showbusiness or whatever. in the end talent and hard work win over mr. this or that title. admittedly, some women title holders were able to transfer their success in showbusiness, or marry some rich businessman or politician. however, for men, being a boytoy is seen as being weak. it is also very fleeting because it is all about youth and beauty. when these are gone they become disposable. developed, first world countries don’t really pay attention to beauty contests anymore; it is only in poor, third-world countries like pinas where it is still seen by many as a means to advance their economic conditions.
