(Janvier Daily played the character of Dodong — alternating with the veteran Dodong, Arnold Reyes — in the 4th rerun of Zsazsa Zaturnnah ze Muzical.)

Upon seeing Janvier’s photos, MGG readers mostly comment about how Pinoy- and astig-looking he is; truth is, Janvier is only half-Pinoy (his father is Irish) and he has this very shy demeanor that puzzles me to no end — I think to myself, with that dashing good looks, how can one still afford to be shy?

On the evening of our interview, as we walked that short distance between Tanghalang Batute at the CCP to Harbor Square’s Starbucks, I noticed how people we passed by didn’t fail to stare in awe at the hunky guy I was with. I tell you, that’s how striking Janvier is in person. More striking, however, was when we started talking. Read the rest of this entry »

Troika, sizzling new indie movie

January 27th, 2007 - Posted on January 27th, 2007

Troika (Threesome), a film by Ihman Esturco, will be having its red carpet premiere showing on January 30, 2007, 6:30 PM at Robinson’s Galleria. The movie tackles the life of miners in northern Philippines, through a very mature attack — definitely for mature audiences only. Inquirer.net describes the movie:

PASSION has decamped the matrimonial bed of a Pinoy mining engineer and his exotic young wife, who left India to live with him in Manila. Love remains but boredom now rules where the Kama Sutra once reigned. The seven-year itch strikes when he leaves for a gold mining operation in Benguet. Her loneliness leads to a drunken dalliance with a stranger. Guilt-stricken, she follows him in Baguio. Then, they find themselves in a perverse sexual triangle. Such is the intriguing plot of Daven Productions’ soon-to-be released movie “Troika,” directed by Ihman Esturco. Menage a trios a la Pinoy!

Coffee chat with Janvier Daily

January 24th, 2007 - Posted on January 24th, 2007

Sometime following that brief episode of meeting Janvier Daily (the other Dodong) after the opening night of Zsazsa Zaturnnah’s 4th rerun, I have been toying with the idea of requesting for a casual interview with him. He exudes such masculine mystery that I can’t help but want to get to know him better. Again, through the magical intercession of Vince de Jesus, Zaturnnah’s musical director, the interview was set… and in fact, it’s done! I actually just came from that coffee conversation with Janvier. We did it at Starbucks in Harbor Square opposite the side entrance of CCP. It was, if I may borrow that line from Notting Hill, “surreal but nice.”

(That’s Janvier in the photo above, sitting just right across me in Starbucks, while I was holding my camera clicking away and whispering to him, “kunwari di ka kinukunan ng pic…” Hehehehe! Ang saya!)

I will share with you details of the interview (and more pics!) in the next posts. Abangan!
